Card Sort Activity: Engagement, Effectiveness, & Ownership

Using the cards in the packs on the table, sort the activities. Where do they fit?
  • Student Engagement - Does it meet the needs of the student and keep them focused on learning?
  • Student/Teacher Effectiveness - Is it focused on making the most of both students’ and teachers’ time?
  • Student Ownership -Does it give students the skills, information, and tools they need to manage their own learning?

Survey - **Please complete the Professional Learning Activity (PLA) Evaluation before leaving today.**

*Note - When attendance is marked in PLAN you will receive an email with a link to take the evaluation. We have disabled the PLAN evaluation because we are asking you to complete this one but you MUST click the link that is in the email to receive your in-service hours.

The definition of blended†learning†is a formal education
program in which a student learns:
(1) at least in part through online learning, with some
element of student control over time, place, path, and/or
pace;
(2) at least in part in a supervised brickandmortar
location
away from home;
(3) and the modalities along each student’s learning path
within a course or subject are connected to provide an
integrated learning experience.

a course that a student takes entirely online to accompany other experiences that the
student is having at a brickandmortar
school or learning center. The teacher of record for the A La Carte
course is the online teacher. Students may take the A La Carte course either on the brickandmortar
campus or
offsite.
This differs from fulltime
online learning because it is not a wholeschool
experience. Students take
some courses A La Carte and others facetoface
at a brickandmortar
campus.

a course or subject in which students have required facetoface
learning
sessions with their teacher of record and then are free to complete their remaining coursework remote from the
facetoface
teacher. Online learning is the backbone of student learning when the students are located
remotely. The same person generally serves as both the online and facetoface
teacher. Many Enriched Virtual
programs began as fulltime
online schools and then developed blended programs to provide students with
brickandmortar
school experiences. The Enriched Virtual model differs from the Flipped Classroom because in
Enriched Virtual programs, students seldom meet facetoface
with their teachers every weekday. It differs from
a fully online course because facetoface
learning sessions are more than optional office hours or social events;
they are required.

a course or subject in which students experience the Rotation model within a
contained classroom or group of classrooms. The Station Rotation model differs from the Individual
Rotation model because students rotate through all of the stations, not only those on their custom
schedules.

1. Seamlessly connect online and offline work.
2. Increased student-student and teacher-student collaboration, and give students control over time, pace, place, and path over their learning.
3. Online classroom presence through an online classroom like Google Classroom.
4. Repurposed time, such as using the flipped classroom model.

Using the video you just watched finish the definition of blended learning using two or three sentences:

Blended learning isn’t about the technology, it is about…

Example:
Blended learning isn’t about the technology, it is about teaching smarter and blending the two seamlessly together. In a blended learning environment technology is leveraged intentionally to increase student involvement, engagement, and input. Blended learning is about blending the best of face-to-face instruction with the right technology in order to maximize instructional time, student achievement, and growth.

a course or subject in which students participate in online learning offsite
in
place of traditional homework and then attend the brickandmortar
school for facetoface,
teacherguided
practice or projects. The primary delivery of content and instruction is online, which differentiates a Flipped
Classroom from students who are merely doing homework practice online at night.
